Kalpana Flying High

She went where no woman of Indian origin had gone before. She shoved Indian women in particular that they could dream big and achieve their dreams if they sit sights on their goal and worked hard to get there. She is none other Kalpana Chawala, who was born in the town of Karnal in Haryana, rising to fame with her first space mission 11 years ago.
Always determined Kalpana completed her schooling in Karnal ,Haryana. She then went on to graduate in aeronautical engineering from Punjab University before going to the United States of America for her master’s degree and her doctorate. She joined the NASA in early in 1995. Her first mission towards space on 19 November 1997 was successful. But was her bad fate during her second mission. All of us remember that fateful first day of February 2003 when the US space shuttle Columbia was blown to bits as it re –entered earth’s atmosphere after a successful mission in space. Kalpana’s life has a message for all of us that we would do well to remember. If we have a dream, we can also make our dream come true, by moving towards one step at a time.
